The Teacher- Susan Savia

Susan Savia is a seasoned, professional musician.  She understands the benefits of an early introduction to music, as she pulled herself up to her mother's piano at the age of three and mimicked the music she heard.  Playing by ear and watching her mother and older brother play and sing, she quickly picked up the ability to sing and play as well. By the age of five, she was playing tunes on the piano and singing in key.  By the age of 7, she was fully engaged in piano lessons, playing classical music.

At age 13, at the height of the folk movement, she taught herself guitar and began performing in school and at church.  By the age of 17, she was already being asked to perform at weddings and parties.

Music has been a constant through Susan's life, performing professionally in the 1980's and 1990's, part-time, while continuing to work in corporate and academic environments.  At the age of 51, in 2006, she decided to embark on an encore career as a full-time professional musician.

Her talents include a beautiful 3 1/2 octave voice, she is self taught on guitar, ukulele, harmonica/blues harp, percussion and bass guitar, and she continues to play piano.  She performs all styles of music, including Vintage Children's music, for which she has a passion.  In fact, she noticed kids paying special attention to her whenever she performed, so she began playing children's music at children's parties. She really enjoys connecting with children of all ages and their parents!

Susan recorded her first CD, Cosmic Summer Sojourn, in 2006.  Lovely and enchanting, many parents have reported that the CD is in their regular rotation for "bedtime listening" for their children.

In 2010, Susan jumped at the opportunity to become an early childhood music educator by attending and successfully completing a Music Together Teacher Training program.  She briefly taught Music Together, but felt limited by the options available to her in that program.

Susan had a strong desire to create her own unique program, to make it more accessible and affordable and more open than the early childhood programs currently available, to allow plenty of time for the children to explore each activity.  She combined her own songwriting and performance ability, pulling from her vast knowledge of music and using the finest principles of early childhood music and movement education she gained during her training and teaching.

She is dedicated and proud to offer Happy Little Singers to the greater Wilmington area. Susan continues to hone her craft as a singer and instrumentalist, as well as her experience as an early childhood educator.  The kids and parents alike love her in the classroom as she brings out her inner child!
